Noteworthies. . .

Did you know that Guam is the largest consumer of Spam in the U.S. and it's territories?
Look at all the varieties! Garlic, Hot & Spicy, Bacon, even a single classic!

Swimming With the Fishes #2

Dear Miss Fishy,

Hafa Adai!
That's how you say "hello" in Chamorro, the indigenous language of Guam.
It has been a wonderful week here in Guam! I have done a lot, eaten a lot, played a lot and gotten A LOT of sun. Maybe too much, but when you could be in 19 degree weather in SLC, can you really get too much?

I started the week at this beautiful beach:
Crystal clear water, white powdery sand, barely a soul in sight. Does it get more dreamy? I think not.

Plus, how could you not enjoy a day of sand, sun and surf with this little sand angel?

We celebrated the Chinese New Year at a local festival and feasted on all things Chinese:

I tried out some of the delicious native dishes here on the island which include red rice, that is white rice cooked in water that has been soaked with Achote seeds; Finadene, a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, vinegar, onions, peppers and lemon juice (yum city); and Kelaguen which looks like this (this picture was taken RIGHT before my camera died):

I also went scuba diving this week at a place called Gab Gab, a beach off of Big Navy, the military base. I saw all kinds of tropical sea creatures including a turtle, angel fish, surgeon fish, a sea anemone and clown fish. It was incredibly bright and colorful and I can't wait to go again!

So far I love Guam! It is a beautiful island and I am looking forward to many more adventures this week!

Swimming With the Fishes

Whirly Bin is off to Guam for the month of February!
In celebration I am going to be keeping a little photo journal of my journey to the tiny island in the adorable Miss Fishy journal found HERE.
Stay tuned for lots of sand, swimming and sunshine!
